After recently attending an event where Joseph Jordan was the keynote speaker, I was able to reflect upon the importance of our industry and gain an even deeper respect for a word many consumers hate to hear: insurance.

There is an abundance and in my opinion an overgrown mass of motivational speakers and self-help authors touting something as their own that has already been written or said, but there are only a handful who truly understand our industry. Joseph Jordan understands what we do, how we do it and why a client behaves the way they do better than anyone else. So I paid very close attention to the words he said at a recent Agent event. He asked:

“And tell me what profession solves bigger problems than the ones we can? Who protects the innocent when someone dies prematurely? Who guarantees a worry-free retirement with income they can’t outlive? Who protects their assets if they get sick? And finally, who can provide a legacy when they die? Only you can do all of that.Tell me that is not a life of significance.”

Do you feel that way? Do you think that way? BECAUSE YOU SHOULD! When you sit, sometimes for hours, and help clients connect emotionally to the need of insurance, you become an advocate for them.  When your clients are unable to speak for themselves, your efforts step in for their beneficiaries, families or even employees.  You bring a relationship and tangibility to a sales business that has become dependent upon graphs and often confusing quotes.

Each and every day YOU have the ability to protect one’s personal and financial legacy. You must believe that what you are doing is one of the most important things in the world because it is to the clients you serve and the community you are a part of. So don’t be shy to tell people about your profession: insurance. It’s a powerful word that changes people’s worlds for the better. Again, how do you feel about what you do?
